Excelsior, MN doubles as the Hamptons in Lapham Rising.

Excelsior, MN has been a little more a-bustle with excitement and activity recently as a a film crew shoots their upcoming movie Lapham Rising.

Lapham Rising, starring Frank Langello (Frost/Nixon, Robot & Frank) "tells the story of Harry March, a retired writer whose life starts to unravel when a multimillionaire begins building a mansion across from his quiet island home in the Hamptons." (IMDB)

Excelsior doubles as the Hamptons, where the film is set.

“The crew has worked together a while," Mark Smith, the film's executive director, told Fox 9. "It's very cost effective to use them and there are many cost benefits to shooting in Minnesota."

“I took photos and sent them to people back home and asked, ‘Is this Minnesota or the Hamptons?’" said the film's director Charlie Kessler, "they didn't know, so that's when I really knew."

Community members have been sharing updates and posts to a community Facebook page "The Lake Minnetonka Fan Club."

Laphard Rising also stars Stockard Channing (Grease, The West Wing), Danny Winn (Deadman Standing, Shot Caller), and Deborah Tucker.
