MnDOT Warns About Scammers Lurking During Holiday Travels
This is going to be a busy holiday weekend with a lot of folks hitting the roads for a getaway. You’ll need to be aware of other drivers as you head wherever you’re going.

It’s worth repeating that with all the increased traffic on the roads, there will also be more law enforcement out there as well trying to keep us all safe.
What You Need To Know
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says there’s another thing you need to be mindful of as well. Those who wish to be able to access your bank account without you knowing they’re doing it. And they try to take advantage of a busy holiday weekend, like this weekend.
MnDOT says that you should be aware of scammers who could send you a fake message about EZ Pass fees, pretending to be the Department of Transportation or another toll agency.
These scammers send a link to you claiming you owe money, and they have conveniently provided you with a link to pay it.
How To Know What's Real
MnDOT reminds you that they will never email or text you for a payment or looking for your personal information. They advise that you should never click on any of the links, and if you have, you should take precautions to protect yourself.
The Department of Transportation says that people are targeted at random and they even reach out to non EZ Pass customers.
If you get an email about paying toll fees, it could be accompanied by what appears to be an official invoice, but it’s just part of the ply to try and dupe you out of your money.
You could get a letter in the mail from Minnesota EZ Pass or the Minnesota Department of Transportation, but those correspondences will have multiple ways to contact the agency and make any payments you owe.
If you feel you’ve been contacted by scammers like this, you should contact the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.
Don’t let being in a hurry to find some relaxation this weekend be the cause of you having to deal with a ton of headaches down the road.
