If you are a fan of e-tabs in Minnesota you know that changes are coming to the game in 2025. The legislature felt the current version of e-tabs is too much like a slot machine with how they can play, taking players to 'bonus' rounds and graphics that look like spinning reels. The changes, which we knew were coming, got a little clearer on how games will roll out as soon as 2025 arrives. Here's what we know.

Local bar H.R. Pesty's posted a note they got this week that helps clear the air on how the new rules and new games would roll out for next year.

It's important to note that e-tabs aren't going away in 2025; they are just changing how they can be played. Here are the changes according to the note from Pesty's in Waite Park.

  • No more bonuses or free play with e-tabs. The note from Pesty's indicates that the game makers are keeping them 'fun'.
  • No more open-all buttons. Players, according to the note, will have to tap the screen three times, if it is a 3 line e-tab, or swipe the screen to open all at once.
  • Any current games that aren't following those two changes by the end of the year, will be closed out and not offered starting Jan 1, 2025. Any game that complies with the new rules at the end of 2024, will be available for play starting Jan. 1 2025.

The note above, is pretty much what I've been reading and seeing even in the passed law, but what was lacking was what happens to the 'out of complaint' tabs if there is still 'money in the box' so to speak at the close of December 31st.

Now we know, those e-tabs will be closed out, and not offered again.
