Help Supply A Need for Central Minnesota Students
I was having a conversation with a co-worker this week, and we were both going on about how we were both a bit taken back the fact that this July is gone.
“Where did the summer go”? I asked as I remarked about seeing school supplies in stores already. Again, my co-worker and I bemoaned how quickly time is flying by.
I read recently that the back-to-school costs per student this year will be nearly $600 per child. This is for clothes, shoes, and or course school supplies. If a family has one child going to school this year, that’s a steep figure to reach. But if there is more than one child in a family, that makes it even harder to supply the needs that each child has for the upcoming year.
Captain Nate North of the Salvation Army serving the Greater St. Cloud area says that for families who are need, they can come to them for support. The link to their website is here.
Here are the items that are most sought after by the Salvation Army;
- Backpacks
- Markers and Erasable Markers
- Notebooks
- Pencils
- Glue Sticks
But they will accept other school supplies as well. All the school supplies need to be new. They cannot accept used donations for this supply drive.
Townsquare Media is serving as a collection point for school supplies for the Salvation Army.
You can drop off items at our offices, 640 Lincoln Ave. S.E. in St. Cloud between 8am and 6pm Monday-Friday. When you drop off your supplies, you can register for a $100 gift certificate or a $50 gift certificate from “Up In Smoke BBQ” in St. Cloud. We will choose two winners at random on August 16th and will announce the winners on the air by 7:30 that morning.
Items will be collected through August 15th. You can also drop off supplies at the Salvation Army offices off Highway 10 in St. Cloud if you would like.
Sadly, there are a lot of families who will be depending on the help of others this year. If everyone does a little to help, no one has to do a lot, and all the needs will be met.
