Heart Defect the Cause of 14-Year-Old Hockey Player’s Unexpected Death [VIDEO]
The 14-year-old star hockey player from Eagan, Minnesota who died on Friday (11/14) during a game in Brainerd, had an undiagnosed heart defect, family said yesterday during a press conference.
Patrick Schoonover's family says the Ramsey County Coroner's Office delivered the unexpected news. "He had a big heart, it just wasn't made for hockey I guess," Michael Schoonover said about his son.
Patrick was playing with the Eastview Bantam AA team in Brainerd this past Friday, when he suddenly collapsed. Patrick’s parents say they had no idea their son had heart problems.
The Hockey community is showing their support to the Schoonover family. The Minnesota Wild held a moment of silence for Patrick before last nights game against the Jets and the St Mary's University Hockey Club posted this video on YouTube.
