Director and writer Harold Ramis has died.

Writer and director Harold Ramis has died, according to gossip website TMZ.

Ramis was responsible for iconic films like National Lampoon's Vacation, Ghostbusters, Caddyshack and Groundhog Day.

Ramis was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease in 2010 that affected the swelling of his blood vessels and his death is initially being reported as related to that disease. No official cause of death has been noted.

Ramis was surrounded by his family when he passed. He is survived by a wife, three children and two grandchildren.

He was 69 years old.
