ST. CLOUD -- Comic book stores around the country are gearing up to give away thousands of comics tomorrow (Saturday) for Free Comic Book Day.

For the past 15 years, comic book companies have given away thousands upon thousands of comics on the first Saturday of May to fans of all ages.

"It's to grow the fanbase, make people aware of comics, and get kids to read comics instead of playing video games," says Tim Schulte, owner of Granite City Comics and Games in downtown St. Cloud, whose store has participated in every Free Comic Book Day.

"It's gotten bigger the past couple of years with the super hero movies and whatnot -- we probably get 2,000-3,000 people through the door."

People who come in on Saturday can pick out four comic books from a selection of 50 titles -- ranging from Captain America to Grumpy Cat -- to take home free of charge.

Schulte says he's got around 3,000 comics ready for the giveaway.

"I shouldn't run out until hopefully noon."
