Don’t Leave These Things In Your Vehicle In The Cold!
Boy has it been cold lately. That’s a bit of an understatement I know. The extreme cold that we’ve been experiencing has caused us to have to take some precautions in a lot of areas.

In addition to taking care of ourselves, we’ve had to protect our pets', vehicles, and water pipes among many other things. With all of that, it’s safe to say that we’ve had on our minds the last few weeks.
And to that point, it’s understandable that sometimes we forget things in our cars. I mean with all the above that I listed along with the business of your life (kids, activities, caring for others, carrying in groceries etc.) we can tend to be forgetful.
I was reading something recently about someone venting about something they had left in their car, on one of the coldest nights we had experienced to that point, that it was no longer working properly.
So, I started thinking about “what shouldn’t we leave in our cars when it is so cold”? I found an article from 2018 from USA Today that still holds true today.
Medications: If you have med’s left out in the extreme cold that aren’t designed to be refrigerated, this can reduce the effectiveness of the medicine and you should replace this if it happens. So, not only could you be without your medicine when you need it, you’ll have to pay to get more of it.
Electronics: This may sound like a no-brainer, but this is something that is often easily left behind. If your arms are full and you’re in a hurry to get out of the cold, a phone or computer could be left sitting in the cold. Doing so can affect the proper operation of your computer or phone. Even short periods of time in the negative temps could cause a problem.
Canned Beverages and Foods: If you leave these items in your car for a period of time, swelling can take place which will set up bacteria. If this happens to you, throw the item away and do not eat or drink it.
Aerosol Cans: Extreme temperatures can cause the contents to be unstable and they could explode.
Even if you knew all these already, hopefully this will serve as a reminder to check your vehicle before you get inside to settle down from the cold.
