This is something you're only going to see in Minnesota. Students from the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University braved the cold to worship on a frozen lake.

The event was the the college and university's first ever ice mass on Lake Sagatagan aka sag for short. And, it was led by Fr. Nick.

The inaugural event was everything you'd expect from a typical mass, alter, prayer and all...but, instead of it taking place in a warm church on a bright Sunday morning it was held in the bitter cold on top of frozen water at 9 in the evening

CSB/SJU shared photos from their special event on Facebook. Those photos have gained hundreds of reactions from people throughout the community.

Lori Wagner wrote, "Keep the fire burning! Awesome way to celebrate Our Lord. Johnnies and Bennies are the best!"

Margy Retica Hughes commented, "Congratulations SJU Campus Ministry."

Ellen Havel said, "That's so amazing!"

Sherry White Schroeder asked the question that's on all of our minds, "how cold was it?" We're guessing, it was pretty cold.

Stacy Radosevich wants in on the next event. She said, "I would have loved that!"

We're not sure when the next outdoor mass will be...but, we're guessing it won't be until next year with the temperatures we've been having lately. (Spring is coming!)

This is definitely an event that made us smile and think 'only in Minnesota!' So thanks for that CSB/SJU! Check out some of the photos below!

ICYMI – Last night the CSB/SJU community gathered on frozen Lake Sag for the first ever student ice Mass. A little cold is no match for the warmth of our community!
