Most people like the holiday season.  One can't help but to get into the Christmas spirit shortly after Thanksgiving, especially if you have a family with children.  Kids love everything about the holidays - and that includes singing Christmas Carols.

When it comes to holiday music, I admit, I'm a fairly traditional guy.  I like most of the classics.  Jingle Bells, White Christmas, Rudolph, etc., I love all of those.  My favorite Christmas song that is NOT one of the old "traditional" tunes, is Band Aid's 'Do They Know It's Christmas', from the 80's.  Speaking of the 80's, I think the Wham version of 'Last Christmas' is pretty groovin', too.  There are three Christmas songs, however, that I have just never liked.  Forgive me, Santa, but........

I really hate 'The 12 Days Of Christmas'.  Not only is this song seemingly endless, but would you want your "true love" to really get you any of these things?  Drummers, pipers, maids of milking, and what's with all the birds?  There are geese, swans, turtle doves, french hens, and a partridge in a pear tree.  What, no ducks or chickens?  Plus, and this is what really irritates me, to my knowledge there ARE NOT 12 days of Christmas.  There is only one.  If you celebrate your holiday for 12 days - it AIN'T Christmas!

Jingle Bell Rock is another that I could do without.  This song sounds like a cheap, Las Vegas lounge act.  I have nothing against Bobby Helms - but Beavis and Butthead would say that he needs to "try harder, or something".  That means, instead of feeling all Christmasy, it sounds like he just had a few cocktails.

I might burn for this, but the last holiday song that I'll pick on is 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas'.  BOR-ING.  Does anyone else think this song sounds like a department store commercial?  Plus, I'm in my 40's, and I still have never come in contact with "figgy pudding".  And nobody says "kin" except on 'Dukes of Hazzard' - the word is "family".

I also despise any Christmas song that is recorded by a boy band.  Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, nor 98 Degrees, will get you in the true Christmas spirit.  You will only lose your appetite!

Merry Christmas - and crank up that Bing Crosby!
