A child is recovering after an incident that happened at the St. Cloud Area Family YMCA on Saturday morning. An email sent by CEO Greg Gack to members Sunday morning explained what happened.

I am writing to inform you that yesterday, March 7, aquatics staff came to the rescue of a swim lesson participant who needed aid. They removed her from the pool and immediately began resuscitation efforts while emergency responders were called. EMTs took over care upon their arrival. The child continues to receive medical care.

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the child, her family and friends, as well as those who provided help.

Safety is core to our work at the St. Cloud Area Family YMCA. As part of our commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety in our programs, we are conducting a thorough internal review to fully understand the details of this incident.

I encourage you to reach out to me if I can be of any support to you.

The YMCA limits the size of their swimming classes and has lifeguards on duty during their swimming lessons. It is not clear at this time how the incident unfolded.
