Are Minnesotans Losing Money From Their Checking Accounts?
No matter how much money you have in your checking account, most of us dream of having a lot more money on hand. The feeling of not having to worry about checking your balance, at least every now and then, must be a good one.
Did you know that you could be losing money by having too much money in your checking account? I didn’t either, but apparently, it’s a real thing.
According to an article from GoBankingRates.com, they spoke with a lady who they describe as a veteran bank teller who offers some insight into getting the most from your money when it’s in the bank.

Is Having A Lot Of Money In Your Checking Account A Bad Thing?
Rachael is her name, and she says that having more than three thousand dollars in your checking account is likely costing you money. She says that checking accounts are meant for money that will be spent relatively quickly.
If you are going to have amounts of money that are just going to sit there, you are better served by having them in a savings account or another type of product from your bank where you can earn some real interest.
It’s likely that if you have money that hits a certain amount, your bank will try to help guide you into accounts that could show you dividends. Doing this helps you down the road, but it also helps the bank as well as they can show more business on the books.
The Temptation Could Be Too Great
Rachael also says that having great sums of money just sitting in your checking account could bring forth an interesting problem. She says that this has led people to buy things that they didn’t need or want, but they bought them because they could.
The phycological side of not having direct access to funds can curve the urge to buy things on a whim.
There are other warnings about your checking account from the article quoting Rachael, but the points I’ve listed here really stood out the most to me. As we all try to plan for the future, maybe this advice will help you in the decisions that must be made down the road.
