It seems the degree of loneliness in Minnesota this year has been worse than we realized.

A recent study by data-analysis website HomeSnacks.com found the most popular Christmas gifts in each state this year. The results are...well...let's just say very apropos for 2020.

Looking at Google shopping trends nationwide, HomeSnacks determined which Christmas presents were searched for online a disproportionate (or higher) amount compared to other states. For instance, tech gifts like smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches were popular trends in many states and dominated the map. There were some more revealing surprises, however, like South Carolina's fascination with the Barbie Camper or Kentucky's desire for a Harry Potter Mystery Wand.

So, before we get to Minnesota, let's take a look at what our Midwest neighbors most want for Christmas this year. According to HomeSnack's findings, all our surrounding neighbors are techies: Wisconsin, Iowa and South Dakota all shared the same wish list-topper with the Fitbit Versa. North Dakota's most-desired Christmas gift is the video game Assassin's Creed Valhalla (appropriate, perhaps, for their Scandinavian heritage). And then there's Minnesota, one of the odd-ball states in HomeSnack's study.

The most-Google Christmas gift item in Minnesota according to HomeSnacks is Anki Vector Robot. As HomeSnack's puts it, "they’re cute little robots that wander around your house, tell you the weather, and collect your personal data. Oh, and they purr when you pet them. What a gift!" According to Amazon.com where they're available starting at $399.99, "Vector is a companion made to hang out and help out. Powered by ai and advanced robotics, he's alive with personality and engaged by sight, sound, and touch." In other words, this little AI robot can:  answer questions, take photos for you, time dinner and show you the weather. Set up with Alexa, it can also set reminders, control smart home devices like lights, speakers, and thermostats and do more. Basically, it's a portable Alexa or Siri.

Despite an overall 4.1 out of 5-star review on Amazon, the Vector Robot has a mix of good and bad reviews, with many negative reviews stating that certain damage is not covered under warranty, the personality development is incomplete, it's overpriced, and the voice control doesn't work without a subscription. Then again, there are also a lot of reviews praising the little robot, too. So if you're looking for some casual, no strings-attached companionship, Vector Robot may be your guy (or gal)!
