My co-host on the Get Up & Go Show (Jen Jacobs) told me I had to try this wonderful Italian restaurant in Minneapolis called "Broders."  The restaurant has been a staple on 50th Street at Penn Ave South for over 30 years.  Molly Broder and her sons were recently featured on the Food Network's "Diners, Drive-In's and Dive's" and have the seal-of-approval from the show's eccentric host Guy Fieri.

Molly made sure I got the "All Access" tour of Broders' Cucina Italiana including a visit to the kitchen area to see how their homemade pizza and bread sticks were made fresh daily.

The smells that were coming from the kitchen made it impossible to focus on the remainder of the kitchen tour.

You can order a fresh slice of pizza, pasta and more right from the counter starting at 11AM daily (Saturday's they open at 10AM). Did I mention you can order select products online and they deliver to select areas.

Let me suggest the sausage pizza or their number one seller fettuccine bolognese (which I tried both and then-some).  P.S. Guy was a huge fan of the Bolognese.

My wife and mother in law were absolutely in love with their fresh homemade salads.

Across the street they also own and operate Broders' Pasta Bar and their newest location called Broders' Terzo Vino Bar. Make no mistake that each place features its own unique dishes and stands out on its own.  The Pasta Bar features an outdoor seating area and features many antipasti selections and classic dishes like spaghetti carbonara.  The Vino Bar is absolutely gorgeous inside and features a complete wine bar along with amazing appetizers like fried anchovies & salsa verde.

Check out the wine bar behind Molly and her very talented sons (who all have a management role within the business and are chef's in their own right).  The boys have been around the restaurant all their lives and learned a lot from their parents growing up.  Molly told me the family home was just down the street from the restaurant and all the boys grew up working at the restaurant in some capacity at a very early age.  She still makes her home close by and credits her husband Tom (who passed away 5 years ago) for making "Broders" a reality.

My wife would kill me if I didn't mention the beautiful dessert counter and the amazing tiramisu.  We grabbed some to go along with a cocoa truffle and some assorted cookies.

I can't wait to go back and visit the Broder family and try even more of the wonderful dishes they make with "love" each and every day.  For an authentic taste of Italy in Minnesota make sure you stop by for a visit and bring your appetite.  They know most customers by name and make you feel at home right when you walk in the door.  From pasta to sandwiches, antipasti to deli salads, they have everything you could want under THREE roofs.
