I love plants, but I wasn't blessed with a green thumb (meaning, I forget to water them all of the time), just ask my indoor plants that look like they're on their last leg.

I'm the type of person that should actually just opt in to have fake plants because that's about my skill level right now.

However, I made it my goal to TRY to make my yard a little more, shall I say, lively this summer. For me, it's a big ask. But, I'm trying.

I did a little digging to figure out what plants are the easiest to grow and keep alive in Minnesota...because, those are my kind of plants. If you're like me, this list is for you.

Here are the easiest plants to keep alive in Minnesota according to the website Brecks. This list is in order from easiest to a little less, but still easy. Each plant was given a rating 1-10 on their difficulty.

  • Hosta plant (3.32)
  • Daffodil (3.64)
  • Palm plant (3.66)
  • Tulip (4.28)
  • Lily of the Valley (4.39)
  • Iris (4.49)
  • Rose (4.53)
  • Peony (4.59)
  • Lily (4.80)

This is just awesome because I need very low effort plants that'll basically learn to take care of themselves, but still look good around my house. According to Brecks, "The plant with the lowest difficulty rating among recreational gardeners across the country is the hosta plant." It looks like I'll be planting a bunch of hostas this year.

If you want more flowers in your yard without the effort, Breck suggests you go with roses, "Overall, the largest percentage, over 45 percent find that roses are the easiest flowers to grow." And, they're pretty, well, pretty I might add.

Looks like hostas and roses it is. Happy gardening! By the way, Saturday is World Naked Gardening Day...one holiday I'm definitely sitting out.
