This year marks the 35th year that this East Side St. Cloud bar has been open, serving up the fun, to go along with food and libations. The Lincoln Depot, located at the corner of 7th Street SE and Lincoln Avenue, has been a cozy hangout for all who stop by.

From Dew Drop To Depot

The Lincoln Depot has been in existence since 1990, when it was bought from the Grelsen family, and it was transformed from a 3.2 beer joint with a flat roof to what it is now. The changeover from the Dew Drop Inn wasn't without challenges, as part of the building was also a small two-bedroom apartment, according to online records.

Before it was the Dew Drop, the building was used as a grocery stand, pub, and gambling hall.

That's what is great about a lot of the buildings on the East Side of St. Cloud, many of them have taken on new roles/lives with each new owner.

Upcoming Challenges For The Depot & others

I'm not sure if you've heard this yet, but starting next week, Lincoln Ave, where you enter the parking lot for the Lincoln Depot, will be undergoing a MAJOR overhaul. The new road will have a sidewalk that runs alongside the road, as well as narrowing the street from how it currently runs, to accommodate the sidewalk, and not having to move power poles and other utilities.

Knowing this major project is coming up along Lincoln Ave, there will always be access to businesses, like Lincoln Depot, the Value Connection, and us, your local radio station.

But we need your help, we want to see you still during construction, as does the Lincoln Depot. So don't get discouraged by the soon-to-be mounds of dirt, big trucks, and more than likely a few large holes, take a deep breath, have a little patience and swing on by.

Still Standing When It's Over

Construction will take the rest of the year, and I know the Lincoln Depot, which again turned 35 this year, will still be standing, but let's keep the good times rolling, while the trains roll alongside the building.
