AVON -- After investing nearly $7,000,000 in infrastructure for a 300 acre development, the City of Avon is finally seeing good progress at Avon Estates.

Since they started, the development now has almost 30 homes. All this is happening without a set developer, buyers get to pick their own builder.

Mayor John Grutsch says, you deal with the city personally.

"The prospective buyers come to city hall, say they're interested in a certain lot, and hopefully we work out a deal to sell them that piece of property."

Grutsch says, they were able to acquire the development from the bank after the original developer left.

"I made a call to the bank and said, if he has the deed, he needs to give it to the city, so we were able to buy the 300 acres for about 60-thousand dollars."

Some larger projects are happening in the development as well.

An assisted living center with 22 bedrooms is set to be done this year and a larger 24 unit apartment building is in the works for the far side of the estates, near the freeway.

The city has a link set up on their website that allows you to see what lots are available still in the current phases of the area.
