Where would we be without truck drivers? Well, we probably wouldn't have reliable goods and services in our stores, we would probably be more reliant on locally grown food, and we haven't even gotten into the other goods/services that truck drivers bring us from coast to coast. This week is National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, and here are some ways you can say thank you to all those hard-working men and women.

This is a big week for truck drivers as it's "an important time for America to thank all the professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment in undertaking one of our economy's most demanding and important jobs. These 3.5 million professional men and women not only deliver our goods safely, securely, and on time, but they also keep our highways safe."

Here are three ways we can say thank you to truck drivers.

1. Leave room on the road/interstate. Do you know how difficult it can be to drive an 18-wheeler down the interstate? First, think about when you are out on a weekend, there can be ALOT of traffic. Luckily we drive smaller nimbler vehicles that can move in and out of traffic, whereas these large semis can't do that, so make sure you leave them plenty of room, and better yet, let them in when they are merging.

2. Offer to buy them a beverage or meal when you see them out. How many times do you stop into a local gas station/convenience store and notice a truck driver waiting at the counter to pay? I see them ALL the time, maybe offer up a cup of coffee or a sandwich while they wait. You'll never know what that small act of kindness can do for someone.

3. Send a compliment to the trucking company. You might not even realize it but many trucking companies have those 1-888 numbers on the cab or trailer that ask you "How's My Driving". Give that number a call, share the truck number, and let them know how well their driver is doing. It won't take you more than a minute.

Bonus: Have you driven down I-94 and noticed the Anderson Trucking Service digital sign? Give 'em a honk as you roll by, I'm pretty sure they can hear it.

A big thank you to all truck drivers out there both long and short-haul, delivery drivers, and anyone else I missed, without your work we'd be missing out on SO much.
