Studies have shown that the average person's cortisol levels peak between 8:00 am and 9:00 am. And cortisol prevents caffeine from doing what its suppose to do. So you should get yourself to work and then enjoy your first cup of coffee. Or if you wake up really early (like I do at 4:00 am), wait an hour before you consume.

There are three times during the day when your cortisol levels peak . . . right after you wake up in the morning, between 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm, and between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm. So I guess you shouldn't have coffee then either. Damn rules.

The good news is you can just keep doing what you typically do, and ignore all of the above.  Drinking coffee right after you wake up won't kill you...so enjoy life's little pleasures and screw science.
