Some numbers to set your mind at (a little) ease, from the Washington Post... Kidnappings are down 55%, the number of kids who go missing is down 40%, kids are 43% less likely to die in a car crash than they were a decade ago, kids are almost 60% less likely to be the victim of violent crime than they were 20 years ago, and child mortality rates have decreased by 50% in the last 25 years.
