Sure, you all know that you can get what you need at the big box stores like Walmart and Target at a reasonable price but who wants to be reasonable? Let’s see if we can find some totally stupid, sick, saving-your-money-for-the-kids’-college-education bargains.

If you don't know what your kid needs for school this year, at the bottom of this page are links to your school's supply list.

Gopher Bargain Center - 229 Lincoln Ave. NE St. Cloud

This is my favorite place to shop for…..anything! Gopher has everything from furniture to food to kid’s games to fence paint to stuff you didn’t even know you needed but there it is. Oh yes, and they have school supplies. The place does not sparkle but the staff is friendly and where else can you pick up a gallon of milk from locally milked cows and a new knob for your door in the same place? Nowhere that I know.

Big Lots calls itself the nation's largest broadline closeout retailer. What that means to me? Good prices on a lot of stuff. They carry lots of seasonal items and ‘tis the season for school supplies so we’re in luck. Bonus points for the student who carries a “#1 Teacher” book bag.

This is one of the biggest dollars stores you’ve probably been to and everything truly is a dollar. They’ve got lots of school supplies but the real appeal is how close they are to Big Lots if you don’t find what you need here. They’re also in the same complex as Savers, a great place to get your back-to-school clothes on a budget.

If I had a dollar for every store on this list with the word dollar in their name – well, I’d have three dollars and that’s enough to buy every pen, pencil and all the erasers you’ll need for the new school year. At Dollar Tree they also have products designed by teachers, for teachers and heck if teachers aren’t going back to school too! Plus, Ms. Pennywise shops there and that’s good enough for me.

Family Dollar is your neighborhood family discount store where you’ll find the products you and your family need the most at the lowest prices – or so says their website. Don’t let the dollar in the name fool you; it’s not one of those everything’s a dollar places but, even if your neighborhood is not Sartell, they’ve got some good buys on those school supplies.
