What You Should Know About the New iPhone 5
The new iPhone 5 was unveiled by Apple yesterday. Here's what's new and improved and what's exactly the same.
Apple says that the new iPhone 5 is the best thing to happen to iPhone since iPhone.
It's lightning fast. The old iPhone 4s will be updated with the new iOS 6, but the new iPhone 5 will come with it. It runs at 4G wireless speeds and has a max speed of 42 megabits. The wi-fi is even better. The old iPhone was compatible with every generation of wireless internet and so is the new iPhone, but the new device supports dual band, so the wi-fi is better. So, what does that do for the battery life? It's actually stronger. In short; it's fast and very powerful.
The new iPhone 5 has a bigger screen, but is lighter and thinner than the iPhone 4s. The new screen is 4 inches, versus three and a half inches for the 4s, it weighs almost four ounces, versus almost five ounces for the 4s and the iPhone 5 is 4.8 inches high, 2.3 inches wide and .29 inches thick. The camera is better, too. Even though it still has an 8 megapixel camera, it now can shoot in panorama which means if you want a picture of a skyline, all you have to do is pan the skyline and it will stitch together a perfect panoramic photo.
There aren't a lot of cords associated with the new iPhone. It has a new power cord and a smaller eight prong input jack, versus the old 30 prong, so the cords you had for your old iPhones won't work unless you pay for a new $29 adapter. The ear buds are also redesigned. They're now called "earpods". They're all plastic, no rubber and don't go into your ear. They rest on the edge, but they shoot the sound directly into your ear canal. There's a wind screen that improves airflow to increase sound quality. Apple says the new ear pods's "overall audio quality [that's] so impressive, they rival high-end headphones that cost hundreds of dollars more."You can purchase a pair for $29, but they will ship with the new iPhone, iPod Touch and iPod Nano.
