WAITE PARK -- With the state legislature at a close, several projects now await Governor Dayton's approval. However, one project not on that list is the Waite Park amphitheater.

Back in March the city requested state bonding money for the project, which was left off the list set by state lawmakers.

City Administrator Shaunna Johnson says they anticipated the decision from the beginning and will try again next year.

"We were laying the ground work and knew there was a lot of project that still needed to be funded and the legislature told us that. We intend to move forward with the same request this year into next year," says Johnson.

The city requested $5-million in state bonding towards the projected $7-million amphitheater. Johnson says this was their first time asking for state funds and feel their project will get picked up during next years bonding year.

"We're very confident based of the feedback we have gotten that our project is one that would be of interest," says Johnson.

Johnson says at this point the decision doesn't delay the project as they are still working on designs and operations.

She says this summer state legislators will come out and tour the site as part of their bonding tours.
