The University of Minnesota has signed Tracy Claeys to a three-year contract as head football coach.

The announcement comes two weeks after Jerry Kill made an unexpected and emotional retirement announcement due to health concerns stemming from his epilepsy.

The Golden Gophers' new head coach had this to say earlier today, “The circumstances of the past few weeks have been unpredictable. This certainly is not the way anyone wants to become a head coach,”... “Coach Kill is one of my best friends and I am thankful that he took a chance on me 21 years ago. I am looking forward to continuing what we have built at Minnesota, but will do so in my own way.”

Claeys served as interim head coach in 2013 while Coach Kill took some time away to deal with his health issues. In that time, Claeys led the Gophers to a 4-3 mark.

I'm sure Coach Kill is only a phone call away if Coach Claeys gets into a slump.

Good luck, Coach Claeys!
