Top 5 Hard to Pronounce Towns in Minnesota
Minnesota has some interesting town names. Winnebago, like the camper, Cologne, like the body spray, Kiester, like the nickname my grandparents use to talk about a butt... the list goes on and on. I thought it would be interesting to put together a list of the top five hard to pronounce town names in Minnesota!
Cuyuna - (Ky- eww- na) - Located in Crow Wing County with a population just of 300 Cuyuna is a top contender. Small town, big pronunciation problems.
Fairbault - (Fair- Bow) - Located just south of the Twin Cities metro, this town always throws me for a loop when reading the name. Apparently the "ault" makes an "oh" sound. Minnesota logic.
New Prague - (New Pray-g) - This southern MN town is spelled like it should be said with a British accent but it's not. When pronouncing this town think "Southern Belle".
Mahtomedi - (Mah - toe - me - die) - Located in the north east corner of the Twin Cities suburbs anyone foreign to Minnesota would definitely struggle with this one.
Browerville - (Brower - ville) - This one is personal. I grew up eight miles from this Central Minnesota city and it doesn't seem hard to say, but try saying it fast. It comes out B-rawr-ville. Like a dinosaur.
