It's cold out there, and it's going to get even colder. The harsh weather is as tough on our pets as it is on us. Here are ways to keep them safe this winter.

1. "If you wouldn't stay out in that weather, your pet shouldn't either," according to the Director of The Humane Society of the United States. Even if a pet normally lives outdoors, you should bring them inside in the cold winter months. If your pet does spend time outdoors, be sure to check their water dish to make sure it's not frozen. Plus, pets need more food to keep them warm in colder weather.

2. Those little boots they make for dogs might seem silly, but they do protect their paws from road salt. Ice melts in general can cause your dogs paws to crack and become painful. Also- watch out for antifreeze. It has a sweet aroma that dogs love, but it's highly toxic and very dangerous to pets.
