Then + Now: The Cast of ‘Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion’
'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion' is such a lost '90s treasure. Starring Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino as two air-headed BFFs harshly bullied in school for being losers, the movie follows them as they road trip to their high school reunion and make up a lie about being really successful.
We put together a little reunion of our own to see what the stars have been up to since the film's release in 1997.
Mira Sorvino (Romy White)
Then: Mira Sorvino, who previously won an Oscar for her supporting performance in Woody Allen's 'Mighty Aphrodite,' played Romy, one half of the ditzy duo that comes up with a scheme to earn the respect of their former classmates.
Now: The '90s were a big time for Sorvino, who also starred in 'Mimic' and 'Norma Jean and Marilyn.' In recent years she's appeared in films like 'Perfect Sisters' and 'Smitty,' and the TV movie 'Finding Mrs. Claus.'
Lisa Kudrow (Michele Weinberger)
Then: Lisa Kudrow played Michele Weinberger, who suffered with a back brace through most of high school. At the time, Kudrow was known best for playing Phoebe Buffay on the smash hit sitcom 'Friends.'
Now: 'Friends' ended in 2004, but Kudrow's career didn't -- the talented comedic actress currently stars on the series 'Web Therapy,' and has appeared in recent movies like 'Easy A' and 'The Other Woman.'
Janeane Garofalo (Heather Mooney)
Then: The comedienne played disgruntled former classmate Heather Mooney, who went on to develop a fast-burning paper for cigarettes.
Now: Garofalo lent her voice talents to the Pixar film 'Ratatouille' and has appeared in the films 'Labor Day' (with Lindsay Lohan) and 'The Ten.' She's very outspoken about her liberal political views, and is a frequent guest on podcasts and news shows.
Camryn Manheim (Toby Walters)
Then: Camryn Manheim played the annoying Toby Walters, who was always overly-enthused about high school and the yearbook. Manheim was also the star of network drama 'The Practice.'
Now: Manheim ended her run on 'The Practice' in 2004. She had a recurring role on 'The Ghost Whisperer' until 2010, and appears in the upcoming film 'The Hot Flashes.'
Alan Cumming (Sandy Frink)
Then: A veteran actor of stage and screen, Alan Cumming played dorky Sandy Frink, who had an unrequited crush on Michele all through high school. The same year as 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion,' Cumming also starred in the Spice Girls movie 'Spice World.'
Now: You probably recognize Cumming from films like 'Josie and the Pussycats' and 'X2' (the second X-Men movie). Cumming also reunited with his 'Romy and Michele' co-star Lisa Kudrow for 'Web Therapy,' in which he has a recurring role.
Julia Campbell (Christie Masters)
Then: 'Romy and Michele's High School Reunion' became the film for which Julia Campbell is best known, thanks to her portrayal of snobby Christie Masters.
Now: Campbell reunited with Lisa Kudrow for an episode of 'Friends' in 2000. She's also appeared on 'Awkward' and 'Criminal Minds,' and had a recurring role on the fourth season of 'Dexter.' She's married to fellow actor Jay Karnes, and appeared alongside him in a couple of episodes of the FX drama 'The Shield.'
Kristin Bauer (Kelly)
Then: Kristin Bauer played Kelly, one of Christie's subordinate snob friends. At the time, Bauer was known best for playing Gillian, the woman with "man-hands" that Jerry briefly dates on 'Seinfeld.'
Now: You know Bauer best as Pam from the HBO series 'True Blood.' She's also appeared on 'Once Upon a Time' and 'Justified.'
Elaine Hendrix (Lisa Luder)
Then: 'Days of Our Lives' and 'Get Smart' star Elaine Hendrix played Lisa Luder, the only one of Christie's friends who felt sympathy for Romy and Michele, and eventually comes to their defense at the high school reunion.
Now: Hendrix hasn't aged a day! She's appeared on 'The Mentalist,' 'Rules of Engagement,' and she had a recurring role on the revamped '90210' series.
Vincent Ventresca (Billy Christensen)
Then: Little-known actor Vincent Ventresca played Billy Christensen, the hottest -- and dumbest -- boy in school, and the guy Romy stupidly has a crush on.
Now: Ventresca had a recurring role on 'Friends' as "Fun Bobby," the guy who was insufferably morose unless he was drunk. In recent years he's appeared on 'CSI,' 'CSI: Miami,' 'CSI: NY,' and 'The Mentalist.'
Justin Theroux (Clarence the Cowboy)
Then: Justin Theroux was just getting started in acting in 1997 when he landed the role of Clarence the Cowboy, the mysterious classmate who torments Heather by refusing to talk and flicking his cigarette butts at her when she needs a lighter.
Now: Theroux has appeared in 'Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle,' 'Your Highness,' and 'The Ten' (with Janeane Garofalo). He's also a writer, and his credits include 'Tropic Thunder,' 'Iron Man 2,' 'Rock of Ages,' and the upcoming 'Zoolander 2.' And if you're a fan of celebrity gossip, you already know Theroux is engaged to Jennifer Aniston -- Lisa Kudrow's 'Friends' co-star.
