The Weekender is full of music from your favorite Broadway hits, as well as hits from Frank Sinatra who would be turning 100 years old this year. Also highlighting our weekend is the 22nd Annual Spring Pow Wow at SCSU, a dinner theater in Little Falls, and two special musicians performing with the CSB/SJU Orchestra.     Broadway, The Beatles & Bernstein

    First United Methodist Church - Sartell

    The Great River Chorale presents Broadway, The Beatles & Bernstein. This concert features songs from your favorite Broadway musicals from Rodgers and Hammerstein, Bernstein, Sondheim, and more. You will also hear some of the top hits from The Beatles. An additional concert was added, so there are two concerts you can catch this weekend. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, and $5 for students/children. The Great River Chorale will also be in concert at the Northern Voice Festival on April 25th, and with the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra on May 2nd for the 1954 in America Concert.

    100 Years of Sinatra with the Andrew Walesch Big Band

    Frank Sinatra would have turned 100 years old this year, and in celebration the Andrew Walesch Big Band is celebrating his career. You will hear multiple songs from Sinatra including That's Life, Nice 'n' Easy, You Make Me Feel So Young, Fly Me To The Moon, New York New York, My Way, and many more. The Andrew Walesch Big Band features many Twin Cities big band, and jazz legends. They will be playing this show again in St. Cloud later this year. On July 16th the Big Band will be playing 100 Years of Sinatra at the Paramount Theater. There are two concerts on Saturday. Tickets for this weekend's shows are $26 in advance, and $29 at the door.

    Something's Afoot

    Great River Arts Center - Little Falls

    This is a dinner theater play presented by Great River Arts. Directed by Dan Hanes, Something's Afoot is a musical play by Samuel French. This play takes a satirical poke at Agatha Christie mysteries as well as the 1930's music at the English music hall. Ten people are stuck in a house during a thunderstorm. They start being picked off by a culprit with fiendish devices. As the killings continue the group tries to find out the identity of the culprit. Tickets for this Dinner Theater are $30 in advance. No tickets will be sold at the door. Doors and drinks are at 5:00 p.m., Dinner is served at 6:00 p.m., and the show will begin at 7:00 p.m. Something's Afoot hits the stage starting tonight, and will run through next weekend.

    22nd Annual Spring Pow Wow

    Halenbeck Hall - St. Cloud State University

    The American Indian Center is hosting their 22nd Annual St. Cloud State University Spring Pow Wow this Saturday. The Grand Entries will be taking place at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m with a feast at 5:00 p.m. You can also take part in a hand drum contest. Keveon Kingbird will be the MC for the event, Kevin Kingbird is the arena director, Patty Sam and Michael Diver are the head dancers, and Murphy Thomas is the spiritual leader. This event is free and open to the public. Below is a video from The American Indian Center's Pow Wow during the Benton County Fair last summer.

    Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas

    Alasdair Fraser and Natalie Haas will be performing with the CSB/SJU Orchestra tomorrow (Friday) night. Fraser is a Scottish fiddler who has been long regarded as Scotland's premier fiddle ambassador. Haas is a cellist, and graduate of the Juilliard School where she studied with cellist Fred Sherry. She and Fraser have been touring for over fifteen years, and their first album together, Fire & Grace, was awarded the Best Album of the Year in the Scots Trad Music Awards in 2004. The duo will be in concert with the full CSB/SJU Orchestra in an evening of Celtic music. Tickets are $24 for adults, $21 for seniors, $14 for faculty/staff, and $10 for students/youth.
