The Weekender: Last Weekend of Tarzan, A Train Show, & More

This is the last weekend to catch the high flying action of the GREAT Children's Theatre production of Tarzan. This play features all of the music from the classic Disney film, and aerial effects. The actors fly across the stage on vines as the story of Tarzan is told. Director Jon Legg says a highlight of the flying effects is at the start of act two. "We start with Trashing the Camp," says Legg, "We've got Turk flying through the scene a bunch of times. He's rolling upside down, he's tipping on his side, he's waving things in the air, it looks like he's just holding onto the rope with his feet." Below is a video on how the backstage crew and the actors work together to perform the aerial stunts. Tickets for the show are $12 for season members, $14 for students/children, $18 for seniors/educators/military, and $22 for adults.

The soft rock duo Air Supply are set to perform at Grand Casino Mille Lacs. Their classics "All Out of Love" and "Lost in Love", which was named song of the year in 1980, are just some of the songs you'll hear during the performance. Graham Russell and Russel Hitchcock have been playing together for 40 years since they first met during rehearsals of "Jesus Christ Superstar" in Sydney Australia. Now they continue to play over 150 shows per year with shows in England, Ireland, Israel, Philippines, Korea, Japan, Canada, the United States, and more. The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University present the work of the Art Major Seniors. There will be a variety of work in different mediums. Seniors Christina Angell, Kathryn Beumer, Megan McKeehan, Ana Nugent, Jessie Sorvaag, Peter Sullivan, Katherine Walz, Chong Yang, and Tianning Zhang will all be featured in the exhibition. There's an opening reception this Saturday from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. The artists will have an artist talk at 1:30 p.m. The exhibit starts tomorrow (Friday) and will run until May 10th.

All Aboard for the Granite City Train Show at the National Guard Armory. All scales of model and toy trains will be on display, along with accessories, books, videos, railroad collectibles, memorabilia, antique toys, and hobby items. The train displays will be operational, and there is also a test track. The children's railway play area features a wooden train layout, and a model train they can help run. At the event you can register to win a LIONEL Train Set, or a FSM HO Structure Kit. Admission is $6, while kids 10 and under are free.

• Saturday, April 18th, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

The 10th annual Central Minnesota Wood Expo is on Saturday. The show features artistry in wood working, wood carving, and wood turning. Local artists will display their work, and provide floor demonstrations. There will also be door prizes, raffle prizes, seminars, tool appraisal, and soap carving for children. Some of the demos include Denny Myers's "Finials and Foolishness" on the lathe, Charlie Gunderson, scroll sawing with Bill Sampson, and woodturning with Jerry Wervey. Some other demonstrations include face on a a stick with Al Gerads, and golf balls with Darryl Cameron. Ken Rambler will be helping with the free soap carving from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. The Honor Cane Presentation will honor it's recipients at 1:30 p.m.
