There is a wide variety of music in the St. Cloud Area this weekend. From country and folk rock, to classical works of Bach and chorale music there is plenty to listen to and enjoy for any enthusiast. Along with the music comes a range of visual arts to check out either this weekend or in the following weeks.

    Great River Arts Center's Fourth Friday Concert Series presents Harper's Chord and Broken Fiddle. These two Central Minnesota Bands will feature a night of country and folk rock entertainment. Harper's Chord, which is a country folk band, features the talents of Paul Drinkwine, Roger Fink, Jill K. Moore, and Micah Barrett. Angie Crandall, Kris Crandall, Jake Hagedorn, and Doug Millaway play with Broken Fiddle, which is a collaboration of the bands Second Fiddle and BrakeAway. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m.

    The Saint Cloud Singing Saints make their way to the Paramount Stage for their annual spring show this year entitled Buster Chord: Private Investigator. This Barbershop Chorus has been performing for over 40 years. The group was recently featured as part of the Join the Club series, and you can see that video below. At this year's show the Saint Cloud Singing Saints will be joined by special guests A Mighty Wind. This quartet was recently the Barbershop Harmony Society's 4th Place International Medalists, and were the 2011 Bronze medalists. They recently released their first recording "Something in the Air". Tickets for this show are $18 plus a $2 processing fee per ticket.

    The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass

    The Minnesota Center Chorale will be performing The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass along side Monroe Crossing. This performance was composed by Carol Barnett, and originally performed by VocalEssence. It features classical chorale writing combined with bluegrass themes. The Minnesota Center Chorale is the first chorale group in Central Minnesota to perform this work of music. Monroe Crossing has been performing The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass with multiple chorale groups across the United States, and have even recorded an album of the music. The band will also be performing a variety of classic bluegrass, gospel, and some of the bands originals to cap off the performance. Tickets are $19 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $10 for children. Tickets will also be available at the door at $22 for adults, $18 for seniors, and $13 for students.

    Matt Haimovitz

    Stephen B. Humphrey Theater - Saint John's University

    The Chamber Music Society of St. Cloud, and the CSB/SJU Fine Arts Programming series present the musical talents of Matt Haimovitz. This cellist has played both in Carnegie Hall, and New York's CBGB. On top of his touring schedule, this musician also mentors young cellists in an award winning studio at McGill University's Schulich School of Music in Montreal. This concert will feature Haimovitz's Bach Listening-Room, and other works by composers inspired by Bach. Tickets for this show are $24 for adults, $21 for seniors, $14 for faculty/staff, and $10 for students/youth.

    Art Exhibits

    There are multiple art exhibits around the area either underway or beginning this weekend.
    Here's a quick list.

    Sam Johnson and Justin Quinn - Gallery Saint Germain
    The artwork of this duo will be on display until May 30th.

    Great River Art Goes Green 
    This is a collaborative project between Great River Arts Center and Morrison County area schools.

    Joe Singewald: Twenty Years of Clay - Gorecki Gallery, CSB
    This exhibit is a documentation of what Singewald has learned over the last twenty years in pottery. His work will be on display until May 10th.

    Lights on for Safety and Art Show - Precision Collision in Cold Spring
    The artwork of Carol Spychala will be on display during this event and available for purchase. You can also get bulbs installed for free in your vehicle during Saturday's event from 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

    Reimagined: Art From Reclaimed Materials - Whitby Gallery, Saint Benedict's Monastery
    This exhibit features four artists Solveig Anderson, Phyllis Joos, Lucy Senstad, and Lily Winter. There will be an opening reception on Sunday, April 26th at 2:00 p.m. The exhibit runs through June 7th.

    St. Cloud State Alumni Art Show - The Gallery Vault
    This show is new to the Spring Celebrate! It feautures the art work of St. Cloud State Alumni. There will be an opening reception on Friday, April 24th from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

    Pine Groove Art Festival - Sartell Middle School
    This free event will have arts, crafts, and live music. The Andrew Walesch Big Band will also be playing The Grands at Mulligans.
