The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Movie Review [VIDEO]
Peter Jackson continues the saga of prequels to The Lord of the Rings in this second feature of the Hobbit series and it's time to face the dragon.
At certain parts of the film I couldn't tell if I was watching a movie or in the middle of a video game due in part to the CGI effects.
Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) seems to survive the every adversity out there in middle earth as he and his companions continue east.
Up ahead they face the skin - changer Beorn and they'll have the giant spiders lurking in Mirkwood. Bilbo and the dwarves manage to escape capture by the wood elves eventually end up in the Lonely Mountain where they encounter the dragon Smaug.
I give the movie an 4.5 out of 5, fast paced, the costumes, and the musical score help make the adventure. I honestly didn't see the seriousness of the film compared to The Lord of the Rings films but I'd see it again.
As the journey continues the third segment will be titled, 'The Hobbit:There and Back Again' set for 2014.
Parental guide: if dragons scare you stay away, but as in all these middle earth films there is violence, there are characters that smoke pipes and drink wine.
Other star in the film include Ian McKellan, Orlando Bloom and Richard Armitage. The film is rated PG-13 and runs 161 minutes.
The film is playing at the Marcus Parkwood Theaters, click on the link for showtimes.
