What is Asperger's Syndrome

People with Asperger's typically have a higher than average intellectual ability, but impaired social skills, and repetitive patterns of interests and activities. So here we have wonderful people, of high intellect, with the same feelings and emotions of everyone else, desiring to be loved, desiring to date, but lacking social skills that come easy to others to land those types of relationships.

How Do Teens With Asperger's Approach Relationships?

A young man named Michael, who is now 27 years old, shared his life experiences for those lacking the social skills to ask a girl out on a date, and have her accept! Michael offers the following advice in hopes that others with Asperger's won't have to go through so many trial and errors as he did. Just so you know, Michael is happily married to his "Angel", and says these tips can help you get there too. Here are some of his important tips:

1. Be patient...

Life doesn't always work on the timetable that you would like it to.  You may get a date tomorrow, or a couple years from now. A healthy, romantic relationship will color your world, regardless how old you might be, so don't hurry into things, or you may end up forcing the wrong person into your "significant other" role, and everyone may end up getting hurt.

2. Put your arm around her for a few seconds...

Nothing harassing or perverted here. Just nicely. If they don't like it, they will let you know.  But touching someone, briefly, in a non intrusive way, conveys to them that you find them appealing, and that you are somewhat self confident. These two things can make someone feel more drawn to you.

3. Become an excellent conversationalist...

Be careful not to babble on about your insect collection, your stamps, your mom, or your kitty. Find things that you have in common, and talk to them in a laid back, non intrusive way. The example Michael uses:  say: "Have you ever held a snake?"  instead of, "Have you ever felt the tiny muscles on a snake as it crawls up your arm?" The second example is much more descriptive and shows your intelligence...yes...However...it provides too much information about the experience.

4. Close the deal...

If you really like the girl you are speaking with, be the one who finishes the conversation. It helps prevent the conversation from lingering into an uncomfortable silence, and shows that you are busy. You could say, "Hey...It's been great talking with you. Would you like to continue this conversation over a cup of java sometime?"  If she says yes, ask if you can get her phone number. If she says no, simply move on. That's about all there is to it.

5. Don't use "Canned" material...

When in doubt, just say, "hey."  The best way to connect with somebody is to just speak from the heart and live totally in the moment. What you say isn't as important as the WAY you say it. Meeting new people is all about exchanging energy.
