There's a second-grade teacher outside Dallas named Brandy Young. And a letter she sent home to parents last week went viral, because it said she's not assigning any homework at all this year. She claims it's because there's no proof that doing homework actually helps kids do better in school. And she thinks spending more quality time with their family might work better. Here's what her letter said . . .

"After much research this summer, I am trying something new. Homework will only consist of work that your student did not finish during the school day . . .

"Research has been unable to prove that homework improves student performance. [So] I ask that you spend your evenings doing things that are proven to correlate with student success . . ."

Then she listed things families should do instead, like eating dinner as a family, reading together, playing outside, and making sure their kids go to bed early and get a good night's sleep. I posted the letter on both the Mix 94.9 Facebook page and my personal page. The response was overwhelmingly in favor of this teachers decision. From both parents and teachers alike.

Here's some of YOUR responses...

This sounds like a great idea. I feel homework occasionally is fine, but the amount that has become the norm is far too much. ~Amie

Seems like a very smart teacher, that actually does her job kudos to her. ~Chris

Great idea.... I think too much homework is why a child struggles so much in school. Great teaching Mrs. Young. ~Emily
