Target Corp. announced it will terminate about 550 employees in the Twin Cities as it closes its operations in Canada. The Minnesota based retailer says a good chunk of those workers, approx 350, are being laid off today (2/11). The remaining positions will be eliminated when Target finishes its liquidation of 133 stores in Canada by mid-May.

Target reports employees will be paid for at least 60 days and severance packages will be given based on how many years of service they had. Before the layoffs, Target employed approx 13,500 people in the Twin Cities, including about 10,000 employees at its headquarters in downtown Minneapolis.
