The road to success for Taio Cruz has not been a conventional one.  Cruz was born in London, to a Nigerian father, and a Brazilian mother.  Music was always a huge part of his everyday life growing up. He began actively singing and dancing at the age of three, and wrote his first song at the age of five.  His grandmother claimed he would be the next Michael Jackson.  While that still may be a stretch, he certainly is off to a good start.

By the age of 19, he was writing songs professionally for other artists, and, had written well over 150 original songs that he hoped would be his own.  At 21, he won a BRIT Award for a song he wrote for Will Young.

His first album, "Departure", was moderately successful.  Cruz, however, reached worldwide fame in September of 2009, with the release of his second album, "Rokstarr", and the single 'Break Your Heart'.  That song was #1 for three weeks in the UK, and one week in the US.  The album's fourth single, 'Dynamite', has also reached #1.

There has been a very impressive list of performers that Taio Cruz has collaborated with, or written songs for.  Kylie Minoque, Travie McCoy, Ludacris, Cheryl Cole, and Kesha, have all worked with him in the last year and a half.  He writes songs for the English girl group "The Saturdays", and is also writing songs for the new Justin Bieber album, due out in December.

He is also a very successful businessman.  He began his own "Rokstarr Brands" line of clothes and accessories, specializing in sunglasses.  Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, and Kid Cudi are all loyal wearers of the shades.

Taio Cruz is a young, talented, educated guy.  He has quickly become a very important figure in the pop music world, and he may be for quite some time.  He is certainly no flash in the pan.
