When Stranger Things first came out on Netflix, my wife and I were a bit reluctant to watch. We'd heard good things, but the sci-fi genre didn't pique our interest too much. On a whim though -- and just as much out of boredom -- we decided to give it a try, and it was the best decision we unwittingly made. Stranger Things was one of the best tv series I'd ever seen; we couldn't wait to watch the next episode together, and there may have been an episode or two I couldn't wait for and watched by myself anyway (sorry, Katie!)

Needless to say, we've been awaiting Stranger Things 2 with bated breath, and with its midnight release last night -- and snow, rain and miserable temperatures in the forecast this weekend -- a binge watch is unquestionably in order.

Sequels to anything are usually poorly done, so the positive reviews to season two have me that much more excited:

If we had to have a second season, then this is a solid result. It will delight fans by giving them more of what captured everyone's attention in the first place.

Stranger Things has a sweet way about it; There's a lot of Goonies comaraderie in its DNA.

Bigger, bolder, in some ways better -- and some ways not -- 2 avoids a sophomore slump by sticking with what worked so well.

It's nearly impossible not to gorge on all nine episodes of this scary-funny nostalgic romp, careening from one catastrophic cliffhanger to the next. But unlike most shows of this genre, Stranger Things remains as endearing as it is terrifying.

If you haven't jumped on the Stranger Things bandwagon yet, do it. You won't regret it.
