ST. JOSEPH --  A new senior living option opens Thursday in St. Joseph. "Serenity on Seventh" will be a 47-unit building comprised of one and two bedroom apartments.

Owner Tom Opatz says residents can move in with the aim of independence, or care.

"You come and pick the apartment that you want to live in, and we bring services to you, so you can come and live very independently, or move in with full services as well."

The apartments range from $1,250 a month to $2,500 a month. Opatz says with that price comes a lot of amenities.

"With that you get a meal a day, and we pay for utilities, cable, phone, in-floor heat, washers and dryers, nursing services including a registered nurse, and activities."

The highest end of services Serenity will offer is called a "care-suite" which includes medication set up, bathroom help and three meals a day.

Only 15 units have been rented so far, so several apartments are still available.
