ST. CLOUD -- A St. Cloud man has been charged with several crimes after a domestic assault at a St. Cloud mobile home park.

According to the criminal complaint, 34-year-old Mark Olson is accused of choking a woman, holding her by the throat and trying to burn down their mobile home.

Police were called to 150 Highway 10 North just after 8:00 p.m. Tuesday on a domestic in progress. The woman told police Olson grabbed her by the throat following an argument and held his grip on her throat for several minutes.

He is accused of smashing her cell phone and trying to retrieve a shotgun from a case in the closet. The woman was able to sit on the case to prevent Olson from retrieving the gun.

Records show she was able to get out of the house and go to a neighbor to call police.

The victim said as she was leaving, Olson threatened to burn down the home and lit a window shade on fire. An older child was able to extinguish the flames before police arrived.

Olson is charged in Benton County with three felonies including attempted arson, terroristic threats, and assault by strangulation. He is also charged with two misdemeanor counts of domestic assault.
