FREEPORT -- Several farm animals died in a barn fire last (Wednesday) night.

The incident happened along 368th Street in Oak Township, east of Freeport.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says a family member noticed the fire and called authorities.

The homeowner, 53-year-old Richard Klaphake, and the Freeport fire department put out the blaze.

The shed was deemed a total loss. 16 calves and two goats were lost in the fire.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
