ST. CLOUD -- A St. Cloud State University residential hall will be closed for the 2017-2018 school year.

Benton Hall will not be open for the next academic year. St. Cloud State Director of Communications, Adam Hammer says the university decided to consolidate some of the their housing options which has led to closing Benton Hall.

"These changes are needed to make sure that the university is responsibly meeting students’ on-campus housing needs. It allows us to have more efficient use of space, creating more vibrancy, participation and an overall better experience for students. Likewise it allows us to shift our limited resources to provide better services and support for our students living on campus."

Residential Life is working with 44 students who have already signed up to live in Benton Hall to help them find other housing on campus. Hammer says each of those students has been given priority consideration for on-campus housing.

SCSU is also in the process of relocating the Pride Community, which was inside Benton Hall.

Last year, the university tore down Holes Hall, which was built in the mid 1960's and presented plans to demolish Stearns Hall. St. Cloud State's comprehensive plan also calls to replace Mitchell Hall within the next 10 years.
