SAUK RAPIDS -- A large road construction project is on track to get underway in Sauk Rapids soon. The city is reconstructing 2nd Avenue South this summer between 1st Street South and Benton Drive. A second phase of the project will include side streets in that vicinity.

City Engineer Terry Wotzka says it's a big project which requires them to dig up the utilities.  Workers will be replacing the sewer and water lines, adding new curb and gutters, new sidewalks and decorative lighting.

Wotzka says the project bid came in just under $2,500,000 and should get started the next week or the first week in July.

The project won't be completed until mid-November and detours will be posted.
