Sartell Community Comes Together To Make 8-Year-Old Boys Wish Come True [VIDEO]

SARTELL -- For most students homecoming week is a time for school spirit. But, this year in the Sartell School District it's about making a wish come true for an 8-year-old boy.

Jackson Stewart is a student at Oak Ridge Elementary and at the age of two, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a progressive muscle deterioration.

"When doctors told us it was Duchenne that was a huge shock," says Kat Stewart.

Life expectancy is about 20 to 25 years. However, that hasn't stopped Jackson from being a kid.

"I tell everyone it's our new normal. It's hard at first but he is still pretty mobile right now," says Josh Stewart.

His parents, Josh and Kat Stewart, both work for the Sartell School District. Student Council Advisor Karrie Fredrickson says when her students heard of Jackson's story, they quickly rallied to support him.

"I was like this is great, we can choose Jackson as the Make-a-Wish project we support and what a great thing for our community to be apart of," says Fredickson.

Jackson's wish is to have a kitty cat golf cart, combining his love for cats and increasing his ability to see his friends when walking becomes more difficult.

Sartell High School Student Council member Jaren Martin says they has been fundraising to sponsor Jackson's wish and have already raised about $3,900 towards their $6,500 goal.

"To come together and do this not just for your school, but for something greater than that, it's unbelievable," says Martin.

The council will be selling homecoming t-shirts, pompoms and buttons during tonight's football game to help Jackson's wish come true.
