UNDATED - Working in retail sales isn't just a job, it's a career. That's the philosophy of a new program being offered by a nonprofit arm of the National Retail Federation.

Executive Director Ellen Davis says "Rise Up" is intended to help you develop the skills to land an entry-level job, and then advance in a retail career.

Rise Up was created intentionally for people who don't yet have a job to gain the skills and knowledge they need to get their foot in the door.  We've had 21 big retail companies endorse this program, companies like Home Depot, Target, Walmart, Macy's...

Davis says retail sales jobs are a lot more high tech than they used to be.

When you look at the way the industry has changed, technology in the store is huge.  The store experience now includes technology, kiosks in the store, mobile devices in the store, and that's all changing.

The cost for the program is $50 for 30 to 40 hours of classroom training. The idea being you'll have a leg up for advancement into a managerial position once you land a job.
