Presidential Elections: Minnesota Leans Blue, But Central Minnesota Solidly Red

UNDATED - Minnesota as a state has a long tradition of voting for the Democratic candidate for president. In the last presidential election in 2012 President Barack Obama received 53 percent of the vote, while Republican candidate Mitt Romney got 45 percent.

Minnesota has given its 10 electoral votes to the Democratic candidate every year since 1972.

However, here in central Minnesota, voters were solidly behind Romney in 2012.

Romney 57%
Obama 38%

Romney 57%
Obama 41%

Out of the 87 counties in Minnesota, Mitt Romney won 59 of them with Obama only carrying 28.

In the most recent statewide polls for this election Hillary Clinton has the lead going into election day, but Donald Trump is expected to do well here in central Minnesota.
