SARTELL -- Sartell police have released the name of the man whose body was pulled from the Mississippi River Tuesday night.

The victim has been identified as 79-year-old Lawrence Schuman of Sartell.

Police Chief Jim Hughes says authorities were called to 15th Street North just after 8:00 p.m. after reports Schuman had not returned from work.

Police were told Schuman does sometimes go for walks, but usually not at that time of day and it is usually only for 20 minutes.

Authorities began searching the area asking various businesses and residents if they had seen Schuman. While going door to door, a resident living on Riverside Avenue North said they saw a man sitting on a bench along the river.

The Stearns County Sheriffs Office was called in to assist, with the help of a bloodhound. Moments later the dog began picking up a scent along the riverbank in the 600 block of Riverside Avenue North.

At about 10:00 p.m. Schuman was found in the Mississippi River.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hughes says no foul play is suspected in the incident.
