CLEARWATER -- High water levels on the Mississippi River is forcing an unplanned closure of Highway 24 in Clearwater this week.

Construction crews will be closing Highway 24 between Sherburne County Road 8 and Highway 75 beginning at 8:00 p.m. Thursday. All lanes should reopen by 5:00 a.m. Friday. However, the closure could last a second night.

Workers need to halt traffic to allow crews to pump concrete from the existing Highway 24 bridge deck to the new bridge currently under construction. The work had originally been planned to be done from a causeway built into the river but high water levels has kept the temporary road under water.

There is no designated detour so you should plan for additional travel time and seek your own alternate route.

The new bridge is scheduled to open this fall.
