ST. CLOUD -- The Christmas season may be over but the spirit of giving lives on through the dog days of summer.

Operation Baby New Year is kicking off their 'Diaper Days of Summer' campaign in an effort to raise 75,000 diapers for local organization.

Organizer Justin Michael says after the diaper drive this past winter, he continues to here how area organizations are in desperate need for more diapers.

"I ran into Doug Scott who is in charge of the rural areas of Catholic Charities and he said their is a huge need in communities surrounding the St. Cloud area. An so I said I would love to help organize a summer diaper drive," says Michael.

The diapers will be dispersed between seven area organization: The Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, Anna Marie's Alliance, Place of Hope Ministries, Lutheran Social Services, Promise Neighborhood of St. Cloud and Central Minnesota Sexual Assault Center.

Michael says on average, disposable diapers can cost $70-80 per month, per baby.

"All these organization year round are currently in need of diapers and so we wanted to make sure we could help them. Also we encourage individuals to reach out to us if they are in immediate need of diapers so we can get them the help and community support they need," says Michael.

The most-needed sizes are 4-6 and diapers can be dropped off at events, participating businesses or one of the seven organizations in need.

Michael says he's been touched by the unconditional support these campaigns have been receiving.

"By getting people involved with local business, communities of faith and fun community events people are more willing to give and they new exactly where their donation was going," says Michael.

The "Diaper Days of Summer" campaigns goes until July 23rd. Operation Baby New Year raised 105,000 diapers back in January.
