This week you're going to hear a little extra funk and a little more crunch with the new tunes we're adding to MIX 94.9. First up is Bruno Mars' new bomb- or should we say 'Grenade'?

Born to a musical family in Hawaii, Bruno Mars was practically raised on the stage. His father organized a Vegas-style revue that featured the entire family. When four-year-old Bruno saw his family churning Motown hits, doo-wop medleys and impersonations all over Waikiki, he was addicted.
As soon as he graduated high school, Bruno hopped to LA with pop-stardom dreams. He’s been a minor player behind the scenes and has had cameos on a string of urban-pop videos… now he’s out on his own. Hot on the heels of his successful smash ‘Just The Way You Are’… comes ‘Grenade’.

You wouldn't know it by listening to him, but Ryan Star was signed (along with his first high school band) to a record deal by Madonna for her Maverick Records label, after years as one of the house bands at the infamous NYC music-dive CBGB's. But you probably saw him on the second season of the short-lived CBS 'Idolesque' series Rockstar: Supernova. He didn't win, but Producer Mark Burnette was so impressed with him that he booked and paid for studio time so Ryan could jump start his career. Looks like it worked. Ryan certainly is ready to 'Start A Fire' on radio.
