BURNSVILLE - The 2017 Miss Minnesota USA and Miss Minnesota Teen USA were crowned Sunday night in Burnsville.

Meridith Gould of Minneapolis is Miss Minnesota USA.

Tori Tritton of Lakeville is Miss Minnesota Teen USA.

The competition consists of three segments: evening gown, swimwear/active wear, and interview.

Both young women receive thousands of dollars in prizes and awards.

Gould will go on to compete for the title of Miss USA.  Tritton will compete for the title of Miss Teen USA.

A Muslim woman has become the first to compete in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant while fully clothed.

Halima Aden of St. Cloud made the semifinals of the competition over the weekend while wearing a hijab. She also wore a full-body outfit called a burkini during the swimsuit competition.

Aden's swim outfit stood in contrast to those of the other 44 contestants, most of whom wore bikinis.
