Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1

Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint

Summary: The highly-anticipated final chapter of the Harry Potter saga has finally come to the big screen.  Unfortunately, since it has been broken up into two parts, moviegoers are left wanting as the screen fades to black just when things start to get really interesting.  Having read the books, I know how the story will end, but I could understand the frustration for those who haven’t.

In my opinion, this is the most faithful adaptation of the series so far, which justifies making the two films.  Deathly Hallows has the darkest tone of the entire series. Our heroes have left Hogwarts and are now on a quest to find and destroy the remaining horcruxes. Along the way they’ll have to battle the forces of evil while Lord Voldemort gets stronger.  Friendships are tested and loved ones are lost. If you thought the previous films were heartbreaking you haven’t seen anything yet.  Expect a lot of deaths, especially in part 2 (if it remains faithful to the book).

Some might find this movie kind of uneventful, but unfortunately the first part of the book is the same way.  It all builds up to the epic battle between Harry and Lord Voldemort, which we’ll see in part 2. The good news is that part 2 will be a non-stop action thrill ride.  The bad news is that July can’t come soon enough.   Grade: A

Trivia: Both M. Night Shyamalan and Guillermo Del Toro expressed interest in directing this film.  Over 500 wands were created for this film.

Rated: PG-13 for violence, sensuality, and frightening images.
